ABSTRACT

In this work, two dry and direct routes for LaCoO3 perovskite synthesis are presented: solid-state synthesis and high-energy ball milling. These synthesis routes are clean and do not make use of materials other than the reaction precursors. The following methods for physical characterization have been applied: X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive electron diffraction (EDS).

The solid-state synthesised powders are polycrystalline within a single-phase, proving that the preparation method is efficient to produce LaCoO3 perovskites. The high-energy ball-milling method produces finer powders. The heat-treatment of these powders leads to high crystalline quality. Both powders have the same stoichiometry.
The developed methods have lower preparation temperatures, simpler synthesis protocols and less expensive precursors, leading to energy and price savings.
Keywords: perovskite powders, solid-state synthesis, high energy ball-milling.
