ABSTRACT

In this paper is outlined the progress and research activities of an international consortium which develops a Cu-Cl water splitting cycle for thermochemical hydrogen production. The thermochemical cycle is introduced with its five variations. The constituency of the international consortium working on cycle development is described together with cycle development vision from lab test tubes reactions to large scale commercial plants. The research activities of each of the member countries are reviewed and the development of a 5 kg hydrogen per day pilot plant at University of Ontario Institute of Technology is detailed.

KEYWORDS: Cu-Cl cycle, thermochemical cycle, hydrogen production.
