ABSTRACT
The cytological effect of DDW was evaluated in the root meristems of Allium sativum L. cells. The cytological experiment was carried out using 5 Allium sativum L. genotypes and two types of water (depleted water-DDW and tap water-TW). In DDW the root organogenesis and growth promoted earlier and faster. The Mitotic Index (MI%) was low in DDW Barzava-1 (4.27±0.56%). The mitotic rhythmicity was similar among genotypes and there were no big differences between variants (dDDWC=+0.14 and dDDWB=-0.58). In pro-, meta-, ana-, and telo-phases as well as in interphase the total chromosomal percent of aberrations were calculated as 0.95, 5.52, 23.82, 13.25, and 57.0, respectively. The most frequent abnormalities were citomixis, pyknosis, vagrant chromosomes, and bridges, polyploid and, micro-nuclei according to total cells with chromosome aberrations were calculated as, 1.19%, 28.60%, 18.14%, 13.53%, 23.46% and 14.73% respectively. The aberrant cells were arrested in interphase and transferred in the transition root zone as senescent. We consider it to be a benefic effect of external DDW in pointing out (to mark) the aberrant cells in order to pass them in senescent status, continuing into the transition zone, and finally purifying the elongation zone and also the root cellular structures.
