ABSTRACT

Incineration ash constituted the raw material for the synthesis of mesoporous silica using alkaline fusion and hydrothermal treatment. The structural and morphological characteristics of the mesoporous silica were obtained by using physisorption measurements, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, RAMAN spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The obtaining method parameters were modified in order to achieve highly ordered silica with appropriate specific surface area. The cost of the mesoporous silica obtaining was estimated to be lower that of commercial products.

Keywords: Ash, environment, mesoporous silica, waste.
