ABSTRACT
Water is an important element for the existence of life and the development of human communities. Water pollution is, after a general definition, directly or indirectly the change of its normal composition, as a result of human activity, in such a degree that affects all the other users to which water could be used in its natural state. Ultimately, water pollution involves, changing the ecological balance. This paper presents the studies on monitoring collected during December 2011 till December 2012, in the vicinity of a metallurgical plant. For these samples the content of heavy metals such as: Fe, Cr, Ni, Pb, Zn, Cu and Cd were determined. The results illustrates the metal distribution in the groundwater samples. Also, using the multivariate statistical methods of factor analysis it was possible to be identified the probable source of groundwater metal pollution.
Keywords: metallurgical plant, groundwater, heavy metals, statistical analysis.
