ABSTRACT

This document has as its focus the presentation of the main pollutant elements that are affecting the environmental quality of a food industry area, placed in closed proximity of Rm. Valcea city. The discussed area has as its purpose the manufacturing and distribution of food products and derivatives, all of concern to the companies and their branding, but chiefly the protection of consumers and their products. The environmental standards around the area have to meet the European Parliament and Council Regulation no.178/2002.

The scope of our present work is the monitoring of the environmental parameters of water and air samples, all of which have been collected once a week, during the month of May 2009. In regards to air analysis, we trace the following parameters: CO, NO, SO2, PM 10 and NH3; for water analysis we determine the physicochemical parameters such as: pH, organic matter, CCO - Mn, CBO5, NH4+, and we take into account the proper laws specific to each parameter. In conclusion, at the end of these monitoring procedures we can determine if the collected samples are passing the warning threshold provided by the Order of Waters, Forestry’s and Environmental Protection Ministry in article 756/1997, and what are the next eventual steps based on the information collected.

KEYWORDS: food industry, air and water pollutants and maximum admissible limit.
